1 Purpose

This procedure allows to determine the level of the noise, that is generated inside the reception chain. The noise level should be low and constant. An increasing noise level is an indication for the aging of a component.

2 Material

  • SMA and BNC 50Ω loads

3 Test procedure

  1. Terminate the IF input port at the back of the PC with a 50Ω load
  2. Start the acquisition
  3. Read the noise level on the spectra display of the control software
  4. Check for spikes in the spectra
  5. Stop the acquisition
  6. Reconnect the IF input port
  7. Terminate the IF input port of the Modulator, IF and Interface Unit (MII) with a 50Ω load
  8. Start the acquisition
  9. Read the noise level on the spectra display of the control software
  10. Check for spikes in the spectra
  11. Stop the acquisition
  12. Reconnect the IF input port of the MII
